A career-choice portal for Kanton Zürich

The Berufswahl-Portal helps teenagers in Zürich find a career, with parents, teachers and companies on board. We worked on its design and frontend.

The brief

The career-choice app for Zürich had lived in the app stores for five years. The Department of Education wanted a portal anyone can open in a browser: teenagers, parents, teachers and career advisers.

What we did

We worked on the design and the frontend. The portal runs on headless WordPress and pulls professions, companies, trial apprenticeships and events from existing databases, so most content stays up to date without anyone typing it in.

An interest test is the first step in class. Results come back as a profile that points to careers worth a look. Teenagers log in with a magic link, so there is no password to forget.

The interest check and the career radar

In later phases companies got their own profiles, where teenagers can ask for a trial apprenticeship straight from the page. A blog, a career radar and a guide to secondary schools followed.

How it went

Teachers in the canton have used the portal in career lessons since summer 2019. It grows phase by phase, one request at a time.
